THE STUDIO

BRASHER is a principal-led landscape architecture and site-design studio grounded in the belief that the best places are shaped by careful listening, clear thinking, and a deep understanding of the people and landscapes they serve.

Founded by Dale Brasher, PLA, the studio brings a hands-on, collaborative approach to every project. From the earliest conversation through planning, design, documentation, and implementation, BRASHER works to create places that are purposeful, memorable, technically sound, and built to endure.

Small by design.

BRASHER was founded on the belief that good design benefits from direct involvement. Every project is led by Dale Brasher from the first conversation through design and construction. The studio’s intentionally small size makes close collaboration, rapid decisions, and continuous principal attention the norm rather than the exception.

Dale Brasher

Founder & Principal

Dale Brasher, PLA, is the founder and principal of BRASHER. As a licensed landscape architect, Dale leads the studio’s work across the full design process from early site analysis and project visioning to master planning, design development, construction documentation, consultant coordination, and implementation.

His work is informed by the belief that successful outdoor environments must do more than make a strong first impression. They must work for the people who use them, respond to the character and realities of the site, support the goals of the client, and remain functional and meaningful over time.

Dale approaches each project with equal attention to the broad vision and the practical details that make it possible: programming, circulation, grading, planting, materials, accessibility, maintenance, permitting, budget, and construction. This balance of imagination and technical rigor helps BRASHER create landscapes that are both distinctive and durable.

Through a principal-led practice, clients have direct access to the landscape architect responsible for guiding the work. Dale believes strong relationships, honest communication, and close collaboration with clients, communities, architects, engineers, contractors, and agency partners are essential to delivering successful projects.

Before founding BRASHER, Dale gained experience within a large multidisciplinary architecture and engineering practice, where he gained experience delivering complex public and private projects and working across disciplines from early planning through implementation. He holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Mississippi State University and is a licensed landscape architect. His professional experience includes parks and recreation, athletic facilities, civic and institutional landscapes, commercial and mixed-use development, and other complex public spaces. His work has included major projects such as Choccolocco Park, the Hoover Met Sports Complex, and renovations at the Birmingham Zoo.

A Practice Built Around Place

We believe landscape architecture has the power to shape how people move, gather, play, learn, heal, and connect. The most successful projects are not imposed on a site or community; they grow from a careful understanding of context, history, culture, ecology, program, and the daily experiences of the people who will use them.

At BRASHER, we look for the opportunities within a project’s constraints. Site conditions, budget, regulations, environmental performance, maintenance, construction realities, and community feedback are not obstacles to work around after a concept is complete. They are essential design inputs that help produce smarter, more resilient, and more lasting places.

Our work is guided by a simple goal: create outdoor environments that serve people well today and continue to add value to their communities over time.

Working With BRASHER

BRASHER is intentionally structured to provide clients with direct, consistent involvement from the studio principal. We believe the strongest projects come from a collaborative process where communication is clear, decisions are informed, and the design remains connected to the project’s goals from beginning to end.

We work alongside public agencies, institutions, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and community stakeholders to turn ideas into clear, buildable solutions. Whether the work begins with a long-range master plan, a complex site challenge, or a focused design opportunity, our role is to help move the project forward with creativity, technical care, and a strong sense of purpose.

What Guides Our Work

  • Listen first. Understand the client, community, site, goals, constraints, and opportunities before defining the solution.

  • Design with purpose. Create spaces that are beautiful, functional, inclusive, and connected to the people who use them.

  • Respect context. Let the history, ecology, culture, and character of a place inform the design.

  • Embrace complexity. Address budget, schedule, code, accessibility, constructability, maintenance, and environmental performance as core design considerations.

  • Build lasting value. Create landscapes that remain useful, resilient, and meaningful long after construction is complete.

Start a Conversation

Every project begins with a conversation. If you have a site, a challenge, or an opportunity you would like to explore, BRASHER would welcome the chance to learn more about your goals.
